Moab, Utah

Join this inaugural summer adventure,
open to the entire Guilford community - alumni, students, family, faculty and staff. The focus of the summer Guilford trips will be on shorter, lower-cost, more rustic trips designed for action-oriented alumni to travel to exciting locations while remaining connected to Guilford. In short, we will be using 5-star
canoes instead of 5-star hotels!
Join fellow Guilfordians for a “ low-cost, high value” getaway in Moab, UT as we
canoe down the Green River! This Utah
canoe trip is an unforgettable odyssey. Paddling a 60 mile section of the Green River from Crystal Geyser south of Green River, Utah, as it winds towards Mineral Bottom, just north of Canyonlands National Park, is a trip of a lifetime.
To make this adventure even more meaningful,
Marlene McCauley, Ph.D, Guilford College Professor of Geology and Earth Sciences, will be accompanying us on the trip to offer her expertise and experience. Marlene has led many Guilford trips, including the “Seminars West” courses. Some courses taught by Marlene include...Optical Mineralogy; Introductory Petrology; Geochemistry; Geology and the Environment (Physical Geology); Gems and Minerals; Terroir: the Science of Wine; Field Seminars in Puerto Rico, North Carolina, Georgia, Rocky Mountain States, the Colorado Plateau, Kenya and Tanzania, Italy, and the Galapagos; Interdisciplinary First-Year Seminars (FYE), Interdisciplinary senior seminars (IDS 400): Barrier Islands: Ecology and Development; Nothin’ But Disasters.
