The following awards are presented annually to alumni and friends of Guilford College:
The Alumni Excellence Award was established in 1980 to recognize alumni who have contributed outstanding service and achievement as humanitarians and/or professionals in their chosen field of endeavor. Service, commitment, integrity and success are the key factors in making these selections.
The Charles C. Hendricks Distinguished Service Award was established in 1954 to honor those persons who have given outstanding and prolonged service to Guilford College. The recipient may or may not be an alumnus of the College. In 2004, the Alumni Association Board of Directors changed the name of the Distinguished Service Award to the Charles C. Hendricks Distinguished Service Award to honor Charles C. Hendricks ’40 for his many years of devoted service to Guilford College.
The Young Alumni Achievement Award was established in 2001 to recognize young alumni who have demonstrated outstanding achievement early in their careers in their chosen field of endeavor. Service, commitment to the field, integrity and success are the key factors in making these selections. Candidates should be excellent representatives of the values of Guilford College and show commitment to the College. Alumni under 40 years of age are eligible for this award.
Honorary Alumnus Award recognizes non-graduates who have given unselfishly of themselves to Guilford College and significantly contributed to the progress and development of the College or embodies the core values it represents.
Established in 2010, the award honors alumni who collectively demonstrate the Quaker testimony of community. The award recognizes the collective actions of alumni who live and work in the spirit of peace, justice, love, compassion and joy through their good works.
Student Awards
The following awards are presented by the Alumni Association to deserving students during Guilford’s annual spring awards ceremony:
The Clyde A. Milner Excellence Award is presented to a rising senior for academic achievement and for being among those of his or her class with the highest cumulative grade point average.
The E. Garness Purdom Award is presented to a rising senior who has shown exceptional leadership in campus life and for being among those of his or her class with the highest cumulative grade point average.
